You’re tired.
Every meal is dreadful.
You force yourself through it.
It never crosses your mind to care about the table.
The eating disorder has taken away what used to be important.
And nice.
And special.
What if you went to the table, even once per day, with the intention to set the table with love?
It sounds crazy, I know.
Because it’s so hard.
But hard isn’t impossible.
Hard is uncomfortable, even grueling.
But hard doesn’t exclude love.
Eating disorders don’t have to change our feelings toward our kids.
Today, decide to take one small step that has nothing to do with the ED.
Instead, this step has everything to do with love.
Intentionally.
Simply.
Meaningfully.
Is it a single flower in a vase or cup?
Is it a favorite soundtrack playing?
Is it colorful napkins or placemats?
Is it something only you know about like a silent prayer of gratitude as you serve the plate?
It can be anything.
It can be filling a glass of water with loving memories on your mind as you do it.
It can be a real smile through your fear.
It can be a hug for your spouse before sitting down to eat.
Try it.
Any time spent paying attention to something that grows your life outside the eating disorder is time well spent.
